So, if you landed on this page, you either did so by accident… or you want to know more about this Jesus guy.

Some people say it actually takes more faith to believe there is no God than it does to believe that this crazy universe comprised of so many intricate components that all manage to work together perfectly was created by God.  I also assume you have at some point in life wondered, what happens after we die?  God gives us answers in His word, the Bible.

God created Adam and Eve (the first humans) and the universe all perfectly. He also gave humanity free will, which means we are allowed to make our own decisions. God does not force us to love Him or even believe in Him for that matter. And because of that free will Adam and Eve chose to commit the first sin and break the perfect connection humans had with God. If God had chosen to leave the connection broken, our consequence would have been eternal separation from God in darkness and pain. Romans 3:23 says, “For everyone had sinned: we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

Instead of leaving the connection broken, God loved us. In fact, He loved us so much that he sent His son Jesus to die on a cross to cover all the sins humanity had committed and would ever commit. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish (die) but have eternal life.”  But Jesus did not stay dead.  He defeated death and now lives inside us if we accept His gift.

So what does this mean? It means that if we wholeheartedly believe that God is the one true God and we ask for forgiveness of our sins (past and future) and accept the forgiveness Jesus gave us by dying on the cross in our place---we can go to heaven once we die physically on this earth and live there for the rest of eternity (yep, that means forever). Romans 10:9 says, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Do you know what else is so awesome about this? It’s a free gift from God…you can’t earn it with good deeds or donating to enough GoFundMe campaigns. It’s called grace. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “God saved you by His grace when you believed.  And you can’t take credit for this: it is a gift from God.  Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

So how does this all work? (glad you asked) God is always listening.  You don’t have to use any special fancy wording, just a sincere honest prayer from you:

Dear God, I know I am a sinner and I believe Jesus died to forgive me of my sins.  I now accept your offer of salvation and eternal life with you in heaven. Thank you for forgiving me of all my sin.  From this day forward I will follow you, God.

After this prayer you may or may not “feel” different but get excited because if you truly meant it, your life is changing for the better…forever! The next step is joining a church and meeting with others who have made the same decision. Also, you will want to download the Bible app onto your phone (bible.com).  Growing your relationship with God always starts with reading His word (the Bible), praying (talking to Him about your life, thanking Him and asking Him for needs) and going to church to gain knowledge and encouragement from others.
